The Galena River Trail features several intersecting trails that provide scenic views of the Galena River, Buehler Preserve, Recreation Park, and historic Main Street in downtown Galena. A favorite among many visitors, the 3.4-mile Galena Junction Trail winds over rolling hills toward the backwaters of the magnificent Mississippi River. The popular bike trail is a great spot to catch a glimpse of a passing train at the Galena Junction! If you’d like more of a challenge, continue onto the Aiken Trail and hike (or jog) for an additional 2.7 miles.

The Galena Junction Trail, which is made of finely crushed rocks, is best suited for mountain bikes and hybrids, but road bikes are common as well. If you don’t have a bike, that is just fine—the Galena Junction Trail is also one of the most popular hiking and running trails!

If you’re looking for a short and easy walk, the Downtown Trail is perfect for you. Enjoy scenic views of the Galena River and picturesque Main Street as you make your way to Meeker Street bridge on this half-mile trail. If you continue onto the Buehler Trail, you will eventually arrive at the lovely Buehler Preserve.
