How to Get From Des Moines, IA to Galena, IL
Plan the Road Trip
The drive from Des Moines to Galena is about 210 miles and typically takes just under three and a half hours with ideal traffic. We recommend stopping in Cedar Rapids about halfway through your trip. The city is a great place to stop for a delicious meal or check out one of the many museums.
The Route
From Des Moines, you’re going to start by taking Interstate 235 East until you get to I-80 East. Take the exit towards Davenport. After about four miles, take exit 142 to get off the interstate, and turn left onto Hubbell Avenue/US-65 North. After about 15 miles, stay straight when the road turns into Highway 330. Turn right onto US-30 East after about 20 miles. Stay on the road for about 75 miles until you get to exit 259. Take the ramp towards Marion to get onto US-151 North. After about eight miles, turn right into Old Dubuque Road to stay on US-151 North. Follow the highway for about 55 miles until you get to fork. Keep left toward Dubuque and merge onto US-151 North/US-61 North. After about five miles, take the Locust Street exit. Stay on the street for about a mile; then, turn right onto Dodge Street/US-20. You’ll soon pass the Mississippi River marking the Illinois state line. The road with turn into Spring Street, and you should see Farmers Guest House on the right about 15 miles after turning onto Dodge Street.
