Farmers Guest House is proud to be affiliated with Project Linus to provide homemade blankets and quilts to children in need.
Here’s how you can help. Book your room, or suite at Farmers Guest House and bring a new homemade blanket with you for your stay that will be donated to the Illinois Chapter of Project Linus. In turn, Farmers Guest House will provide you with a $10.00 discount on your stay.
If you prefer, while at Farmers Guest House you can make a donation by purchasing a kit with all the necessary materials to make a blanket. The kit will then be used to assemble a blanket at the next retreat. Either way, you earn a $10.00 discount on your stay.
Project Linus is a national non-profit that collects handmade blankets to donate to children in hospitals and charities or through police and fire departments as well as local businesses. The organization is named after the “Peanuts” comic-strip character Linus van Pelt, the woebegone best friend of Charlie Brown, often seen sucking his thumb and clutching his security blanket.
Farmers Guest House innkeepers, Susan and Don Steffan, recognize the importance and comfort that a handmade blanket can provide. Together, they have raised nine children. All children find comfort in their favorite blanket, but for a child in need, these simple gifts can make the difference.
Farmers Guest House also partners with local quilt and fabric shops to host quilting retreats that benefit Project Linus. You can check out our list of available Quilting Retreat Days for 2012 and early 2013 by clicking here.
