I
t’s Apple time! This beautiful breakfast treat tastes just like Apple Pie – but with less sugar – and makes a great alternative to regular French Toast.
Ingredients:
12 large eggs 1 1/2 c half & half 1/4 c sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 12 slices of Texas toast 6 tart apples cored and thinly sliced 1/2 c apple cider 1/2 tsp cinnamonButter a 9×13 pan. In a large bowl mix the eggs, half & half, sugar and cinnamon. Dip the 12 slices of Texas toast in the egg mixture and place in the 9×13 with six on the bottom and then another six atop those. Pour the remaining egg mixture over the bread and allow to set for at least 1 hour or refrigerate over night. Place pan in a preheated 350 oven and bake for 40 minutes (45 if from refrigerator). While toast is baking, place sliced apples in a large pan on the stove with the cider. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and steam for about 6 – 8 minutes or until apples are soft but do not lose their shape. When toast is done, gently layer apples on top before cutting. Can be served with whipped cream. Yum.
